South-west Alaska and the Bering Sea

South-west Alaska’s Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta, Nunivak Island and a broad reach of the Bering Sea give the Bethel sheet its unmistakable character. Much of the coverage is low-lying tundra and wetland, broken by braided rivers, countless lakes and an intricate coastline. Offshore waters and islands occupy a substantial western portion, while the land gradually becomes more rugged towards the interior edge.

Connections to adjoining sheets

The chart spans the transition from exposed Bering Sea coast to the river country and uplands of inland Alaska. That makes it particularly useful for routes crossing between coastal communities and the interior, where shoreline, river systems and changing terrain provide sharply different visual settings.

Routes continuing east may pass onto the McGrath, Kodiak or Fairbanks sectionals, depending on their position along the chart edge. Nome adjoins to the north-east, covering onward travel towards Norton Sound and western Alaska’s more northerly coast.

Common questions

What area does the Bethel Sectional Chart cover?

It spans 59.4°N to 64.3°N and 174.9°W to 160.3°W. Airports on the sheet fall within Alaska. The full list of public-use airports within its coverage is on this page.

Should I download the GeoTIFF or the PDF?

Take the GeoTIFF if you are loading the chart into moving-map software or a flight planner — it is georeferenced, so the software can place it correctly on a map, and it ships with a world file and FGDC metadata at 300 dpi (44.5 MB). Take the PDF to print it or read it on a second screen (93.7 MB); it is the same chart without georeferencing.

Is this the current Bethel chart?

This is the FAA edition effective 9 July 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. Visual charts are reissued every 56 days and we publish each new edition on the day it takes effect. It is for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.

Which charts adjoin the Bethel sheet?

McGrath to the east, Nome to the north-east, Kodiak to the east and Fairbanks to the east. Each is linked from this page, so a route running off one edge can be continued on the next sheet.

Is the Bethel Sectional Chart free to download?

Yes, with no account required. FAA charts are United States Government works and are not subject to copyright protection in the US under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Guest downloads are speed-capped, so a sheet this size takes a while; PRO members download at full line speed and can take the whole family as one archive.
