Go PROHalifax lies near the centre of a sheet shaped by Atlantic Canada’s deeply indented coastline and broad stretches of open water. Coverage extends from eastern Maine and New Brunswick across Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia towards Cape Breton, while the northern portion takes in the Gaspé Peninsula and the Gulf of St Lawrence.
The landscape shifts from Appalachian uplands in New Brunswick and eastern Quebec to lower coastal country, islands and exposed headlands. Numerous bays, channels and peninsulas make the shoreline visually distinctive, while routes across the Gulf or around Nova Scotia can spend substantial distances away from continuous land.
The Montreal sheet adjoins to the west, providing continuity for routes towards inland Quebec and the St Lawrence corridor. The New York sheet meets the Halifax coverage to the south-west, supporting routes that continue beyond the Gulf of Maine towards the north-eastern United States. Together, these joins matter most where a route moves between the maritime coastline and the more continental terrain farther west.
