Across the Carolina Piedmont

Charlotte sits near the centre of a sheet extending from the Blue Ridge foothills across the rolling Carolina Piedmont towards the Sandhills, with substantial coverage south into upstate South Carolina. The western side brings increasingly broken, wooded terrain, while the country becomes gentler and more open towards the east. Urban Charlotte and its surrounding communities form the central focus, set within a wider landscape of smaller towns, reservoirs and rural ground.

Terminal focus and regional context

The Terminal Area Chart keeps attention on the Charlotte metropolitan region and the surrounding terrain at a scale suited to close study of this busy local area. The Sectional Aeronautical Chart covering the same ground provides broader regional context, making it better suited to seeing how Charlotte relates to routes extending farther across the Carolinas and neighbouring areas. Used together, the products offer a focused terminal view alongside the wider geographical picture.

Common questions

What area does the Charlotte Terminal Area Chart cover?

It spans 34.5°N to 35.9°N and 82.2°W to 80.0°W. Airports on the sheet fall within North Carolina and South Carolina. The full list of public-use airports within its coverage is on this page.

Should I download the GeoTIFF or the PDF?

Take the GeoTIFF if you are loading the chart into moving-map software or a flight planner — it is georeferenced, so the software can place it correctly on a map, and it ships with a world file and FGDC metadata at 300 dpi (25.3 MB). Take the PDF to print it or read it on a second screen (52.7 MB); it is the same chart without georeferencing.

Is this the current Charlotte chart?

This is the FAA edition effective 9 July 2026, which is superseded on 3 September 2026. Visual charts are reissued every 56 days and we publish each new edition on the day it takes effect. It is for flight simulation and reference only — not for real-world navigation.

Is the Charlotte Terminal Area Chart free to download?

Yes, with no account required. FAA charts are United States Government works and are not subject to copyright protection in the US under 17 U.S.C. § 105. Guest downloads are speed-capped, so a sheet this size takes a while; PRO members download at full line speed and can take the whole family as one archive.
